The Via Francigena is an ancient Christian pilgrimage route that connects Canterbury, England, to Rome and the Apulia, both in Italy. The route crosses both France and Switzerland. To know more about the route, no better source than Wikipedia:

Within Switzerland, the route is integrated into the national network of walking trails under number 70. In this next figure, you can see where the route enters the country through the Jura mountains in the North side of canton Vaud, moving south until Lac Leman, then following its coast towards the East and then going south again to leave the country into Italy through canton Valais. Within this figure, I also zoomed in on a portion that constitutes one of the most beautiful hikes…
