Unlike Dennett, I am thrilled with this week’s challenge because I love Photoshop. It literally lets me play with an image, something I can and have done, for hours on end. The filters that are built in allow me to take one simple photo and turn it into something much more magical than I am capable of creating using just the camera.

Plastic Wrap Filter — Highlight strength 15, Detail 9, Smoothness 7

There are some filters that can create an actual visual texture, such as the one above. To me, it looks like I’ve got a photo of a bas relief sculpture of some sort, when in fact, it’s a simple photo of pre-dawn ornamental grass on my front lawn.

Glowing Edge filter — Edge width 2, Edge Brightness 11, Smoothness 5

I’ve actually used the Glowing Edge filter, demonstrated above, to help me define details in photos that I’m trying to turn into a drawing. And it makes things just look a little cool.

The original unedited version, just for comparison. Taken by me with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi on January 6, 2008. These days? I just use my phone.

Thanks for the much needed break from my daily grind alto. I got to play today!! Woot!
