When marketing professionals add Snapchat to their collection of social platforms, there will be a learning curve to get over, just like with any new technology. But Snapchat is much more different from other popular mobile social networks, so getting started on the communication app may take some time.

Brands will need to be creative in order to appeal to the younger audience on Snapchat. That’s why I put together these 10 Snapchat tricks. Some are old, some are new, and others may not be spoken about too much. If you are just getting started on Snapchat, then these features can help you look like a pro.

As you get started using Snapchat, follow some of these popular accounts. Befriending them will help you see how they use it and help you learn some different content marketing tactics to try. These influencers may be able to help get the word out about your Snapchat account, but it will come at a price.

Partnering with one of these power-users can be a great way to jump-start your Snapchat presence. Getting the word out about your Snapchat account will help grow your following to a very eager-to-engage audience. Snapchat users are very engaged on the platform and that, of course, is what makes it so valuable for brands.

You need to be where your buyers are, so here are 10 Snapchat tricks every marketing professional should know about to help get the ball rolling.

1. How To Skip Snaps

This can come in handy when viewing stories with a lot of uploads. All you do, is tap a snap to skip to the next. While viewing a snap and holding the screen with one finger, tap the picture or video once with another finger and it will skip that snap and send you to the next one in the story.

Essentially, its how you fast forward through a story on Snapchat.

2. How To Stack Filters

The most recent Snapchat update allows users to use two filters on their snaps. To execute, when ready, pick the first filter you want to apply. Then, touch and hold the screen with your finger and with another finger swipe to pick another filter to apply.

Only certain filters can be placed on others but at least it gives you some more options to get creative when sending your snaps.

3. Quick Camera Flip Trick

When looking through the viewfinder, but before you take a picture or start recording a video, double tap the screen to change between the back camera and front-facing camera.

This camera trick can come in handing when submitting multiple snaps in a short period of time. By double tapping the screen you can quickly change between different views when sending your content.

4. How To Send Existing Pics As Snaps

You can send existing pics as snaps to individuals through direct messages. If you open a DM between you and a friend and tap the yellow circle (send snap) icon, you will be able to pick from your pictures on your phone to send to that friend. This can be helpful for executing contests on Snapchat.

5. How To Find Your Snapchat Score

Every user on Snapchat has a score tethered to their activity. The score is a sum of the number of snaps sent and snaps received. To increase your score quickly, users can send snaps to everyone on your friends list and open every snap that you receive.

6. Custom Geofilter Trick

Another recent feature Snapchat added to their platform was the ability for users to upload custom geofilters. The application of these filters are available to users who make geo-location services available on Snapchat. Custom geofilters are user-made filters that can be designated for specific geographic locations throughout the United States. You can submit your own by following their rules and guidelines.

7. How To Delete Snaps From Your Story

If you ever add a picture or video to your story and you want to remove it, the good news is that you can. After you send a snap to your story, go back to your “My Friends” view. Once there, you’ll be able to see who has seen the snaps in your story. Each snap will have a settings wheel and if you tap that, you’ll be able to delete your snap. Ideal if you make any mistakes and want to pull something down.

8. How To Draw With Black, White, And Brown

This trick is an older one, but I couldn't help to leave it out. Plus it helped make a complete list of 10 Snapchat tricks. When coloring on a picture or video, hold your finger on the color chooser and then slide it all the way to the left side of the screen. Don’t slide it off the screen.

From there, if you slide it up, you will be able to color with white. Slide your finger all the way down, and you can pick black. If you slide it down, but not all the way down, you’ll have access to some variations of gray too.

9. How To Save Snaps

I’m not going to walk you step-by-step how to save snaps on Snapchat but besides taking a screen shot, this video can show you how people can save snaps without senders knowing about it.

Users may also use a traditional camera as seen above, or someone else’s phone to record snaps too. Also, if someone has enabled the replay feature, then they can watch a snap twice. Give them another opportunity to record something they already saw, in case they want to.

10. Special Text Trick

Special text can now be colored and altered in size and placement on snaps. This feature allows for further customization on snaps allowing you to blow up special text and emojis.

You can also change the color of text by tapping on it and picking a color from the color picker. If you blow up emojis big enough, you can use them as color overlay filters on your snaps.
