Snapchat recently announced that they are seeing over 6 billion video views each day.

Each day!

Now, there are always people that have to detract and talk-down the impressive stats, especially those who are still skeptical of the platform and like to be stinkers. But, that’s okay. As a wise man once said, “Haters gonna hate.”

I understand the skepticism. There is a debate as to what constitutes a “view.” When you look at video giants Facebook and YouTube, a video must be played for 3 seconds or 30 seconds to be counted as a view, respectively.

When it comes to Snapchat, that number is lower. MUCH lower. How low?

Well, according to Snapchat, you only need to open a video for it to be measured.

Does that sounds misleading and inflated? Sure it does. But there are a few important variables at play here that you should remember:

  1. Snapchat is mobile-only. This means that you can only watch snaps on a mobile device. You can’t just have stories running in the background on your computer while you’re actually working, like I do with YouTube throughout the day.
  2. Snapchat occupies 100% of your real estate and attention. You cannot multi-task on your device when you are in Snapchat. There is no hovering video that will continue to play while you search for the next story, like YouTube and even Twitter. When you’re there, you’re there!
  3. 6 billion views is almost the population of the entire world! I know it’s not 6 billion people watching these videos, but still. That’s a lot of freaking activity! How is this not a huge deal for you non-believers?

All in all, this is amazing stuff.
