As an urban photographer who is always out and about in the city but doesn’t always have access to my DSLR, keeping track of really cool locations I find can be a hassle. Some places are landmarks that I can easily remember, but many times it’s just a really neatly designed house or storefront somewhere out of the way that I probably would never remember. To help address this problem, I’ve started on a fun new side project — Snapspot.

Snapspot is an app that allows you to track and discover amazing spots to take photos of all types wrapped up in a slick interface. If you are out on a run, in a hurry, or just don’t have your big camera, you can easily log your current location with a single tap — and the app will take care of the rest, automatically tagging your photo spot and pulling in relevant data from a variety of services.

Your spots don’t have to be public, but if you want, you can share your favorite spots to other users of the app, who can discover great places to take photos by keyword, tags, distance, and more. You might even find one or two gems while you’re at it.

Snapspot is in active development and isn’t quite ready for primetime yet. It should be ready by the end of the year, available on iPhone in the App Store.
