5 things to read

1. What to do if your designs or artwork have been stolen

Amy Crabtree had her artwork stolen, and in this article, she explains what she went through to fight back. She also shares what others can do if they find themselves in the same situation.

2. Almost A Million People Are Freaking Out Over Snapchat’s Redesign

Snapchat issued a redesign to their app last week and a lot has changed. Read about why its users are so angry and what makes it difficult to use.

3. 6 ways to get into creative coding

In case you’ve ever been interested in how creative coding can be, CreativeBloq has a variety of ways to test things out.

4. That Time I Broke My Nose Trying to Do a Triple Twist

This is an awesome photo story of what it takes to do a triple twist in ice skating. The combination of photos really shows off the differences between the pairs of skaters.

5. Film & TV — Creativity on screen

Last week, Creative Review did a series of articles about a variety of topics related to film, including how “Paddington 2" was created, what it takes to get your idea on the big screen and more.

5 things to see

  1. Valentine’s Day Guide | The Daily Orange, Syracuse University

This illustration is beautifully detailed and very tailored to Syracuse. It works really well as the cover for their special section — I just wish they had teasers for some of their articles on the cover.

2. Ascent | Indiana Daily Student, Indiana University

I love how the arm and ball of the photo extend beyond the frame into the section header.

3. Ohio budget| The Post, University of Ohio

The relation between the illustration and the topic of the article is immediately clear. I love the idea of making it an old school calculator, as if someone is actually trying to figure out the budget.

4. You’ll be missed Tom | The Daily Emerald, University of Oregon

This photo is a nice shot of the professor in the classroom and the black-and-white treatment is a good way to show respect. The simplicity of the cover keeps the focus on the photo.

5. The 2018 Ka Leo career guide| Ka Leo, University of Hawaii at Manoa

I love the line illustration — and using a desk is a good way to focus on upcoming careers. Since the desk part is so simple, it doesn’t conflict with the busier background.

Students, did you know you can join the Society for News Design for as little as $5 a month?
