5 things to read

1. After 46 years, Mattel redesigned Uno for colorblind people

I love seeing inclusive design, and for a game that is heavily based on colors, using new icons to make the game accessible for colorblind people is a great step forward.

2. Vintage book covers brought to life with mesmerizing animations

I love seeing really creative designs that reinvent old designs. These animations are simple but give a new spin on classic illustrations.

3. Disney’s next movie could be watching you, too

Disney is starting to use facial recognition to understand how to make movies that make people constantly want to come back and watch more. The technology can track reactions of people during movies to see which aspects of the film are working and which aren’t.

4. Creative leaders on stress in the workplace

This article has some great tips on how to manage or avoid stress. Tips include working four-day weeks, taking time off and mapping out a clear plan to reach a goal.

5. The floor plans of famous TV offices, from Sterling Cooper to Dunder Mifflin

This is a really fun article that breaks down the exact layouts of some iconic TV offices. It helps viewers understand exactly where people are in the show.

5 things to see

  1. Ohio state preview and Texas preview | OU Daily, University of Oklahoma

This football preview guide is sleek and full of photos and sports schedules. It’s a great way to show off the upcoming season without too much text and is done in a unique way.

2. The dining guide | Ka Leo, University of Hawaii at Manoa

Great food photography really drives this cover, which is enhanced by the fun illustrations and cute text.

3. Framing feminism | The Daily Orange, Syracuse University

The cutout of the artwork is very striking. Highlighting other pieces from the show is a great way for the viewers to get a feel for the art without having to actually go to the exhibit.

4. Uncertainty, decline in income mark University’s budget | The Post, Ohio University

This design does a great job of making a very visual page out of an article that doesn’t have any photos. The graphics are clean and easy to read and I love the repeated use of green throughout that ties it all together.

5. Around the world and back | Central Michigan Life, Central Michigan University

This is a really fun illustration, and I love pulling out a signpost with all of the different locations that students have traveled to. I just wish there was a little more diversity on the globe in the different areas.
