Hello, Snipette Readers!

Right now, it feels like the whole world is in flux. The coronavirus pandemic is sweeping up the world in its clutches and it seems no one is above it. Our country, India, is going to remain under a full lockdown until mid-April. Times are serious, and tense, and more than a little anxious.

In such a setting, it may be more necessary than ever to take consistency where we can find it, and more importantly, allow ourselves to indulge in the lighter moments of life.

Which is why, here at Snipette, we’re going to be more or less business as usual. We’re going to choose to see the silver lining instead of the dark cloud, and hopefully, for a few moments a week, we can help you do the same.

So, first order of business: our readership is nearing the 400 mark! We’re so thrilled about this growth. It seems like new people are joining us nearly every week.

As we say every time, this would not be possible without the support of our readers and we’d like to thank you for coming along with us on this journey.

Speaking of new additions, we’ve just revamped our website and added some new features. Most notable is the “related articles” links at the bottom of each post, so your reading doesn’t have to end when you’ve scrolled to the bottom. We’ve also improved the look and feel, and increased the prominence of authors, so do check it out and give us your feedback.

Finally, we’d like to say that just as we’re going to be putting more time into Snipette as we endure quarantine, you’re welcome to join us in channelling all that nervous energy into something productive. At the risk of sounding cheesy, the door to the outside world may have closed, but the window to your best writing is yet to be opened.

Here’s our Writer’s Programme, where we help people that are unsure writers to begin their journey. You may have a piece that’s been waiting to be finished for months, or a topic that you’d like to share, or even just the vague notion that you’d like to get started. We’ll help you take whatever you have and turn it into a finished piece.

To put a positive spin on things, we’re trying to think of this lockdown as an opportunity rather than a restriction. Whether it’s aspiring writers getting started or scientists using the break to share their work with the world, everyone has something to say — and now, you have ample time to finally say it. To that end, we’ll be sharing some friendly reminders on social media. If you have any friends or family with writing inclinations, this might be a good time to spread the word about us to them too.

And finally, let us end with a question: how are you spending lockdown?

Send in your response to this email, or on social media (and don’t forget to tag us!).

Stay safe!
Manasa and Badri,
