Dear Reader,

In our internal team chat, we sometimes share tweets from @year_progress — a progress bar that tells us how much of the year is over. During bad times, we tell each other, “Look how much of the year we’ve pulled through already!” (And during the good, we go “My god, is there only that much time left?”).

That bar nears completion now, and it’s time to ring in the new year. Since this is the fourth issue of Analog, it also means we’ve officially printed a whole years’ worth of articles! Perhaps you have them forming another progress bar of sorts as a stack on your desk?

Snipêtte à tête

This year, we’ve decided to try something new. Thuận, who has been writing several interesting articles on coffee, got the idea of presenting his learnings in a live webinar! The first session of Snipêtte à tête will be broadcast on YouTube on the 17th of January at 10:30am, Vietnam time (click to convert to your timezone). We’d much appreciate it if you tuned in — and asked your friends and family to do the same.

You can visit this page for details.

Thuan’s articles are available here, and if you have any questions to ask him, do send them in as a reply, comment or tweet with the hashtag #AskSnipette.

But wait, there’s more. After the first session, we’re hoping to hold one webinar every two months. And while the first one features Thuan, the second one could feature you talking about what you’re interested in. This option is only available to authors, but there’s nothing preventing you from becoming one.

Member updates

In the past few months, we’ve slowly been adding to our Member Portal. The Wallabag “read it later” service is a convenient way to save articles for later — and sync them to your various devices too. (We realise we haven’t provided any “how to” manual, but we hope to bring one out soon — and you’re welcome to email us directly in the meantime).

Our newly launched forum is a place for writers, editors, and readers like you to connect and socialise. That’s right — the forum is open to non-Members too, and anyone can sign up with their email ID.

Finally, we hope to soon set up an email relay service. You know that random second email which you use to sign up on random websites? This is going to be like that, but better.

Also, we’re hiring

Before you get excited by the heading, we should point out that we can’t actually pay you, since we don’t yet have the funds. But if you’re interested in collaborating with other authors, e-meeting new people, and having fun fooling around on the internal team group chat, then we’re — well, in some sense of the word — hiring! Hop over to this page to see open positions.

That about sums up our updates for the year of 2020. One more reminder to please send in your questions for Thuận’s webinar, and let us know if you want to be featured next time.

Happy reading, and have a great year!

Cheers,
Badri, Manasa, Akil and Nia
