At Snipply we’re all about BYOD, or bring your own device, a trend within the consumerization of the workplace where employees bring their own devices within the company to get work done. While we tend to think of smartphones as the de facto device — and it is — laptops, tablets, and other devices are being increasingly used as well.

Let’s take a look at BYOD by the numbers in terms of implementation within current companies and where we’re trending.

BYOD Implementation Stats You Need To Know

  1. Frost & Sullivan found that 78.48% of companies in the US had BYOD activities in 2018.
  2. Cisco found 95% of organizations allow personal devices in some way in the workplace.
  3. Syntonic found that at least 36% of companies have more than half of their employees using their personal smartphones for work purposes.
  4. CBS News reported that 67% of people use their own devices at work.
  5. A study by Syntonic found that 87% of companies are dependent to some extent on their employee’s ability to access mobile business apps from their personal smartphones.
  6. Dimensional Research reported that 96% of companies with BYOD say the number of personal devices, connecting to corporate networks is growing.
  7. Trustlook reported that only 39% of companies actually have a formal BYOD policy.
  8. The IT department is responsible for BYOD policy in 69% of organizations.

What It Means

There are a few takeaways from these facts and findings. The major one is that BYOD is here. The other is that while companies are taking advantage of the value BYOD can bring, they aren’t necessarily preparing for it. The lack of policy goes is due to it being a rather new phenomenon and one that has happened organically and rapidly.
