Turn your home into a maker lab.

Snips and Seeed are teaming up with Hackster to launch a new developer contest around the theme “Smart Homes on the Edge”. This competition empowers developers to flex their creativity with Voice Interaction Development Kits and create their first voice interface projects that improve processes around the home. As an incentive to kick off the contest, the best 20 submitted project ideas will be awarded a Voice Interaction Base Kit or Voice Interaction Satellite Kit! Anyone can participate by signing up to develop voice applications with Snips, as well as purchasing a dev kit (order Base Kit online) or using a Raspberry Pi Model 3 B+ and ReSpeaker Mic Array. The cut-off date for entering to win free hardware is February 20th and the final submission deadline for all fully developed projects is April 24th.

Be one of the first to try the new Voice Interaction Development Kits.

The new Voice Interaction Development Kits, launched this month, were created to help you prototype your ideas around voice-controlled IoT. Connect all your favorite devices through this smart hub for your home. The portable, modular design helps you run your household more efficiently, with each kit packing a set of integrated features: a Raspberry Pi, ReSpeaker Mic, Grove sensors, and a 16GB SD Card with the Snips AI Voice Assistant in English and 2 demo apps pre-installed. The development board can easily be extended with hardware add-ons for each use case, such as air quality, human presence, and accelerometer sensors. The Satellite Kit also acts as an extension to the Base Kit, extending the range of voice commands to several rooms and environments.

We’re giving away 20 Voice Interaction Kits!

Be one of the first to develop with the new Voice Interaction Development Kits by registering for the Smart Homes on the Edge contest on Hackster.io. If you register your project idea before February 20th, you’ll have the chance to get a free Base Kit or Satellite Kit.

Developers who submit completed smart home projects will compete for a total of $3,000 in prizes! The grand prize is an all-expenses paid trip to Maker Faire Shenzhen, New York, or Paris, along with a one-on-one mentorship session with Snips CEO Dr. Rand Hindi and a showcase space at Maker Faire to display your winning project. You could also win a new Macbook Pro 13-inch laptop, or a $500 gift card to the Seeed Studio store.

Grand Prize: an all-expenses paid trip to a Maker Faire around the world.

There are five projects categories in which you can submit a voice project, all with the same prizes:

  • Home Automation
  • Home Security
  • Lights & Shades
  • Domestic Robots
  • Entertainment & Games
