Snow piles up outside Onondaga Hall

If you walked around SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, you would see plenty of students bundled up and bracing against the wind.

Despite heavy snowfall, the school chose not to cancel classes on Wednesday.

Some students disagreed with this decision and felt that dangerous driving conditions warranted classes being canceled.

“I feel like all classes should have been canceled today because the roads are terrible and it’s probably not the safest conditions to be driving in,” said senior public relations major Liz Albers.

Albers also said it doesn’t make sense to continue to have classes during this weather, as a lot of students are unlikely to attend anyway.

“Whenever it snows a lot, most students don’t show up to class and it ends up being a waste of time just sitting there,” Albers said.

Some professors decided to cancel their class on their own, while others held class anyway and hoped that students would brave the elements. Others canceled class but additionally emailed their students an assignment in lieu of class work.

SUNY Oswego is no stranger to extreme weather, so some may not be surprised to see the school remain open. Lake Ontario creates the potential for lots of lake-effect snow, which students experienced plenty of on Wednesday.

The forecast for the rest of the week also has snow, although not as much as Wednesday. All indications show that SUNY Oswego will remain open on Thursday and Friday. Students are going to have to bundle up and prepare themselves for the rest of winter.
