SUNY Oswego has cancelled all afternoon classes as a snowstorm continues to blanket CNY with ice and snow.

Snowfall began early Wednesday morning and is forecasted to continue into 4 a.m. according to a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service.

While the heavy snowfall had plenty of students excited about the snow day, many students still ended up attending morning classes that didn’t get cancelled before 12 p.m. For students like Hannah Gonzalez, who live off campus, that meant traversing potentially dangerous weather conditions.

“If I had missed the bus, which happens a lot because the stop I get picked up at isn’t actually on the schedule, it would’ve been a 20 minute walk through a blizzard to get to my class,” Gonzalez said.

Many were left wondering: if the forecast predicted continuous snow until the next morning, why weren’t classes cancelled earlier?

Cassidy Bell, a senior attending SUNY Oswego, voiced concerns about attending classes in inclement weather.

“I just don’t understand why classes weren’t cancelled sooner,” explained Cassidy. “No class is worth getting into an accident or hurting yourself for.”

Other students see going to class in a snowstorm as just another part of the Oswego experience.

“When you decide to go to school here you should know what you’re getting yourself into,” said SUNY Oswego senior Rudolph Petter.

Oswego is known for it’s weather, days like today remind us why.
