Developers & Community Update — February 2022

February Editor’s note: Elsa Mayer

The team rotates ownership of publishing our monthly updates, and I have the pleasure of compiling updates for February, so here are some of the community news & announcements I’m most excited about:

Can you believe it’s already February? Wishing you all a happy belated Valentine’s Day. If you’re in search of a Valentine, we just learned that our beloved Snowflake the Bear is looking for love on Bumble. Check it out…

Speaking of icons in the data community, the 2023 Data Superheroes were announced earlier this month, and they truly are an incredible group of Snowflake experts. They live for connecting with other members of the community, so be sure to view their profiles, and send them a message. A special shout out to returning Data Superhero, Yuta Hishinuma, who was recently featured as one of 30 Data Leaders to Watch in 2023!

Last month Snowflake released the Developers YouTube channel with over 100 video tutorials deep diving into Snowflake best practices, tips, insights, and app development trends. This channel is perfect for app developers, data scientists, ml engineers, devops engineers, cybersecurity engineers, and really anyone who builds with Snowflake!

As you know, Snowflake Summit is coming up in June, which will be here before we know it. Tickets are likely to sell out this year, so if you’re planning to join us be sure to act soon. The Data Superheroes will attest that the Data Heroes Hub was the place to be at Summit last year. If you don’t believe us, here’s photo evidence…

Perspectives from the Data Superheroes

Congratulations to our Data Superhero of the month!

Simeon Pilgrim is a Senior Software Engineer and returning Data Superhero based in Christchurch, New Zealand. In Simeon’s words,

“I have been using Snowflake since 2016, and am a little bit of a fanboy. I really enjoy teaching people how to write good SQL, and spending my spare time answering other people StackOverflow questions. It’s the same joy as write a fun data exploration SQL.”

Congrats to Simeon for being a top contributor on our Stack Overflow forum!

If everyone’s favorite groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, is correct in his predictions, those of us based in the northern hemisphere still have 4 more weeks of winter. But even still, March will be here before you know it. So until then…keep building!
