The Myths and Realities of a Santa Monica Beach Trip

We drove to the beach yesterday from our home by Pasadena, and I thought of how I could paint a picture of a sunny, laid back time on the sand in Santa Monica.

I could easily write it so you’d feel a tinge of jealousy no matter where you live. Describing the ocean vibes, the beautiful people and — okay, let’s get to it.

A beach trip was in order before our 14-year-old starts school this week. She’s our granddaughter and we’ve had to carefully think through school options with her mother along with our 6 year old grandson.

Going to the beach means taking her good friends who are part of a family with five children total. So, you can see where I’m going with this.

Right now, their van isn’t working so we took our Mazda CX-9 and my 2006 Toyota Corolla and stuffed the trunk with boogie boards and a small pop-up shade.

Picking up the other family is always a treat since they live on a narrow street that’s densely populated and cars have to crawl past each other. The two youngest kids, a 5-year-old boy and almost 4-year-old girl come storming out of their apartment the minute we pull into the driveway and have to avoid bumping into them, or worse.
