Life Is Too Short For TGIF

I am all in on self-awareness, reflection, always room for improvement — but if you believe you need to find your life’s true work, your passion, you have to buy this or that, you have to meet the right guy/girl, or almost anything else has to happen before you can be happy, you are missing the mark in a big way. The truth is that being happy is a choice you must make every waking moment. HAPPY doesn’t happen to you, YOU happen to happy.

I’m reprogramming my brain to say SBIF (so bummed it’s Friday) and TGIM (you figure it out!). And I cringe a little (to myself, I’m not an asshole) every time I hear someone say (including myself) “thank god it’s Friday” or “ happy Friday” — it tells me that to some degree (not always) that the person is dying inside — and to be really clear, I’m talking about Friday mornings when you get to work, not Friday night when you get home (I’m all about TGIF when you get home to family and friends).

And don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating Frank Costanza’s “serenity now”. All I’m suggesting is that we don’t get happy when ____________. Is it possible that we choose happiness and that act somehow sends our life off in directions that our level of happiness demands or presupposes? I don’t pretend to know the details of how the universe works, but that seems to be my experience.

SBIF, everyone. Have a great weekend!

Much love to you all, let me know your thoughts on this one.
