What is it like being a student of this course in professional writing and editing? In this post I ask myself, then answer some questions i think are common around being a new student.

This should give you a good understanding of whether this course that I am in could be something that YOU might consider choosing.

“There is a lot of terminology and practice exercises, but most of it is the type of thing you would already know how to do, being able to identify the processes gives you a better understanding of your own writing style.”

Q: So first off, why do you enjoy writing?

A: I enjoy being able to put my thoughts and opinions about my passions into descriptions for other people, and it’s helped me through the last couple years through lockdown and isolation.

Q: What made you want to do this course?

A: I want a career that would benefit from being able to describe details, so I looked around for a class on writing skills and this course seemed like a good logical step to provide the skills I would need to become more eloquent.

Q: How have you found this course so far?

A: There is a lot of terminology and practice exercises, but most of it is the type of thing you would already know how to do, being able to identify the processes gives you a better understanding of your own writing style.

Q: What are some challenges you have found and how have you tried to overcome them?

A: One thing that has been a little challenging is navigating the class canvas pages, which can make completing tasks and finding a specific bit of information difficult. The best way to deal with this has just been patience.

Q: Would you say, overall that you have enjoyed your experience? Do you have any suggestions for how it could be improved?

A: The classes are mostly in person, and this can make for a better learning experience than if it was entirely online, however having all the information you need available in the class shells allows for working from home where necessary. There could be some improvement in how to use the site but otherwise the course has certainly been worth the time.
