1. Visit the library:

Make the most of your access to the university library. University libraries boast vast collections of books, journals, research papers, and other academic materials. You will most likely have full access to these materials, both in physical form and online. Use it while you can! If you’ve got a bit too much time on your hands during study break, read about something you have always been interested in, or borrow the entire encyclopaedia collection — the world is at your fingertips!

2. Make friends at uni

University can be a great place to meet people. In your 20’s you may realise you are growing in a different direction from your childhood friends, maybe it’s time to expand the social circle. Get out of the bubble and meet some people! It’s great to have friends to study with or have someone who you can always rely on for a cheeky beer after class.

3. Explore the campus

Get yourself a university ID card and you’ll have all the power in the palm of your hand. It’s like a master key. RMIT city campus is one of the most interesting campus’ to explore. Find study spots, the best spot for coffee, and you may even come across a uni event or two.

4. Enjoy your free time

You may have a free afternoon or two now that you’re out of school. I like to use the ‘I’m at uni card’ to justify my misadventures. You may fixate on learning a new hobby, re-watch the twilights and do enough baking to feed an army. This is your time to experience new things, and no one will judge you because you are just a silly little uni student.

5. Open your mind

Figuring out what you want to do with life has never been more exciting. Chat to friends in your course about their ambitions, talk to teachers about paths they have gone down, and most of all get out there and try it yourself. It’s a time to for new electives, join a uni club or sports team, write a paper or work on a project that’s been on your mind for some time. Uni isn’t about being the best in your class, it’s not even about achieving that piece of paper at the end. It’s all about getting out there and giving it a go.
