You’ve heard the saying “A smile is worth a thousand words.” Well, a 1 minute video is worth 1.8 million words according to Dr. James McQuivey from Forrester Research. I don’t know about you, but a 1 minute video sounds far more enticing than reading the entire Oxford English Dictionary…twice. Video marketing is one, if not the most, important aspect of any company’s marketing campaign. The best part of using video is that it condenses the message in a way that the viewer can retain quickly.

There are two main goals with any marketing campaign. The first is you want people to buy what you’re selling and the second is that you want people to remember you. According to SocialMedia Today, 65% of viewers will more likely retain the information from watching video while only 10% of people will retain text based information. That alone should make you want to jump at the opportunity to use video to its fullest potential.

Large or small businesses can benefit immensely from a video marketing campaign because the costs are minimal and the audience is never ending. Think about it, if you make something that people like they will share it with their friends on Facebook or followers on Twitter, and then if they like it, they will share it and so on. The potential reach of any marketing campaign is endless. You can go from a no name brand to a household name overnight. Be creative and use the resources around you to extend your reach. You can upload traditional video to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but you can also use Vine and Instagram for short and to-the-point content.

People crave video so much that just the word “video” in an email title increases click rate by 65% according to Brain Shark. And video is not going anywhere, within the next 5 years one third of all online advertising spending will be for online video, says Borrell Associates. Who knows what it’ll be in a decade?

People actively want video in their lives and the best part is that they will remember more from video than from text. People want to learn, we are sponges that soak up knowledge on a daily basis. I say we give the people what they want.
