Every year around the same time carnival revelers gather in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago for Trinidad’s annual Carnival. Everyone is ready to pump, jump, and wine, but not everyone is as ready as they think they are.

Below are some useful items and tips I suggest you keep in mind before stepping out onto the road.

Sooo it’s early early Monday morning and you are ready for Jouvert…

1. I suggest that you invest in a waterproof transparent phone pouch (Amazon: $5.99 USD). If you forget to buy one, a ziplock bag can work as well.

Please note that attending any wet fete or paint and powder event you run the risk of getting your phone wet and damaged.

2. If you have sensitive ears and can’t take the bass pumping from the trucks on the road… I suggest you invest in soft foam disposable earplugs (Amazon: $6.29 USD for a pack).

3. I suggest that you bring along comfortable sneakers and consider investing in gel insoles (Amazon: $19.95 USD).

Jouvert morning your sneakers will get dirty and so hopefully you bring another clean pair for Monday and Tuesday Mas.

4. If you are carrying more items out on the road but you don’t like to feel weighed down… I suggest a lightweight backpack (Amazon $21.99 USD) or a fanny pack.

6. Don’t forget to represent and wine! I suggest you bring your rag/flag/arm flag so that you are prepared to jump and wave.

I personally find this arm flag dope (Armwaves.com or @officialarmwaves1 on Instagram).

7. I suggest you invest in a decent pair of shades/sunglasses (preferably ones that block UV rays). With that being said, invest in sun screen as well (SPF 50+ suggested).

  • Sun in your eyes and directly on your skin is no joke and the sun’s rays are the strongest between 10am — 2pm.

8. I suggest that you invest in a Selfie Stick (Amazon: $10.00 USD) You would be amazed with how convenient this can accessory can be. The angles you will catch are priceless and any videos recorded will definitely capture waistlines pelting.

Don’t forget to free up yourself !
