The Charleston Battery head into the USL Eastern Conference playoffs looking to win their 2nd USL Cup and 5th club championship overall. They start their 6th straight USL playoff appearance (10th straight overall) at home against the defending USL Cup Champions, New York Red Bulls II on Saturday night.

This is a tall order since the Battery have defeated NYRBII only one time, and have yet to beat them in 2017. With that being said, Charleston is entering the playoffs with momentum, taking 10 out of their last 15 points and winning their final two matches of the regular season.

This matchup may not be big around the league in terms of build up and excitement, but in Charleston, they are ready to make another deep playoff run and add a fifth star to the historic Battery patch. It’s not every day that two former USL Cup champs collide, especially in the playoffs.

Moyer’s Match Prediction:

Yes, NYRBII are the defending USL Cup champs, but the Battery are the better team right now. And yet, in the short history of these two teams, the Battery have never defeated NYRBII at home.

I feel like that record will come to an end on Saturday night, but it will be left until late in the match before the Battery put this one away and move on to the USL Eastern Conference Semifinals next week at home against the winner of Tampa Bay and Cincinnati.

Final Score: Battery WIN 2–1
