Letdown: North Carolina FC draw 0–0 in Toronto
Scoreless in a battle against one of the worst teams in the league, NCFC earned a point on the road… so that’s something.
There is no worse outcome to any match than a 0–0 draw. It’s against the very spirit of the sport itself.
NCFC is better than TFC II, but the team went into a dead atmosphere for their second road game in a row and didn’t show enough life. Four points from two road games is good, but TFC II isn’t going to get many points this year, and it’s a shame they got one off us.
The one thing that alarmed me is that we got outshot by TFC II 17–9.
Considering we had 57% of the possession, that never should have happened, but Toronto found a way to threaten the goal, especially at the beginning of the second half.
I am right back to wondering just how good this team actually is.
The turning point
What turning point? We had all of the ball but couldn’t generate shots.
Three who mattered
- Alex Tambakis, North Carolina FC: Two straight shutouts for the Dead Whale keeper. Faced four shots on target, took care of business when called upon.
- Angelo Cavalluzzo, Toronto FC II: At the very end of the game, we looked likely to steal the game on the road. The Canadian backstop stood tall and preserved a point for his team. It’d make sense that the two keepers were amongst the key players in a scoreless draw, but Cavalluzzo especially earned the nod.
- Ulrich Ewolo, North Carolina FC: With five touches in the box by himself and a heat map showing a ton of work in central attacking areas compared to our other forwards this year, Ewolo did a lot of things right that make me look forward to the rest of this year.
