Google’s Android Associate Developer Certification

I recently passed Google’s Android Certification exam and now i am recognized as the World’s Youngest Android Associate Developer

I received my certification and my badge on Oct 27, 2017. I was (still am) so happy about my certification, In my head i was the youngest certified developer (The minimum age required for taking the exam is 13)but i wanted to know for sure (By Google) that i am the youngest so i contacted the certification team at google about am i the youngest certified developer? and then one of Google’s certification team member replied :

Their Reply

My other credentials

For those who don’t know, Associate Android Developer Certification essentially demonstrates that you are a capable application developer that can competently design entry-level apps for Google’s mobile platform. Its the first (but necessary) step towards mastering Android app development.

About Google’s Certification

The Exam Format (as of December 9, 2017) for latest information click here

Exam fee : 149$ (USD)

Exam Duration : you have to submit within 24 hours from the time you started the exam

Attempts : You get 3 attempts once you pay. If you fail in your first attempt you may try again for the second attempt. If you fail in your second attempt you may try again for the third attempt after 2 weeks but If you’re unable to clear the exam after 3 attempts, you will have to wait 2 months after you need to pay again.

Exam Content :

  • Testing & debugging (Debug Mode, Logcat, UI Testing (Espresso), Local JVM Testing)
  • Application user interface (UI) and user experience (UX)
  • Fundamental application components (Activites, Content Providers, Broadcast Receivers, Services)
  • Persistent data storage (SQLite, Shared Preferences, Internal & External Storage)
  • Enhanced system integration (Notifications, Widgets, & etc)

The Exam consits on two parts/stages

Stage 1 : Building the application

Many people have the misconception (the wrong ideology) about every exam in context being Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’S) but it’s not the case in this exam.

  • Once you complete the payment and you start your exam. You’ll be given 24 hours to build the application, You’ll need to design the UI, test it and fix the bugs. Don’t worry all the UI requirements, feature(s) list and even the list of bugs(errors) will be provided to you. All of this with a template/starter code upon which you’ll need to write code to build the complete application.
  • After you are done with the application you’ll need to submit it, with the submition of the app you’ll need an ID(Identification) Proof of yourself something like a passport copy or drivers licence will do. (For more info please click here)
Reply Upon Submission
  • Once you are done submitting/uploading your project(application) and your ID, you will receive a email regarding you submission
  • Next Just Relax & go get a drink

Stage 2 : Exit Interview

Reply Upon passing stage 1

Once you are graded and you pass you will receive a email by google to schedule you exit interview.

  • The exit interview is an online video call organized via zoom.us where a member of the certification team asks you a few questions regarding the exam.
  • Your general android knowledge will be tested in the exit interview.
  • I had my interview with Carlo and my interview was barely 3 minutes long.
  • This mostly covers questions regarding your code and basics of Android.
  • The interview lasts for 15 to 30 minutes and in some cases ended within 10 minutes itself.
  • Once again, you’ll have to get yourself verified using the ID you had uploaded at the end of Stage 1 during this interview.

Hopefully if all goes perfectly fine you will then be certified by google and receive your certificate and badge via credential.net
