Yellow is a membership organization, online portal and conference for women on a journey to do good with their lives. With unique online and in-person resources, Yellow seeks to create community, clarity and tools to discover one’s purpose for the conscious-minded woman. This intentionally women-centered community is a valuable and necessary space in a time ripe for female empowerment.

What I love about Yellow’s work, is that it’s broad and intentional, serving women in multiple areas of their lives. Skimming through their blog, you’ll find crowdfunding how-to’s, cryptocurrency breakdowns or tips to progress your social enterprise presented proudly alongside intimate pieces on women’s health and wellness.

From the second you click through to their webpage, one gets the sense Yellow is a beacon for community and mindfulness. Their tagline calls to “women working together for the good of the world,” and the links to join their mailing list, conferences or member group are often bookended with the phrase “let’s do good, together.” They even set collective themes for the year and an intention for each month, (this month’s is “recognizing your potential to learn or do”).

Joanna Waterfall founded the company just four years ago, and in that time, Yellow Conference attendance has doubled in size, they’ve added a membership structure (The Yellow Collective) and launched 15 chapters across the country.

Their annual Yellow Conference launches August 23th & 24th, in Los Angeles, California. The theme parallels the intention chosen for the year “Our Ownership” and is a nod to discussions that millennials are owning less, like cars and homes, than the previous generation. Yellow Conference’s theme is to view this trend in a positive light:

“Although we are less inclined to own…material possessions, what if we were known as a generation who knows how to own who they are?”

This year, Social Enterprise Alliance is partnering with Yellow and attending alongside our Los Angeles chapter. (Heads up to SEA members, we’ve got a 20% discount code for you, so you can snag those conference tickets at a great price. Just login to your SEA account and click here for the discount code and we’ll see you there!)

The company expects nearly 500 women to attend the two-day event, where attendees will discuss the use of creative solutions to make a positive impact on society. With their usual personal and inviting flair, Yellow describes their convening as “so much more than a conference:”

This is for women who desire to fight for a better tomorrow…our 2018 theme is “Our Ownership”…Owning the stories, dreams, visions, passions and abilities we have. Owning the problems of the world instead of turning a blind eye.

So far, speakers include leaders from Thinx, Justice Rising, Pinterest, Parker Clay (a Social Enterprise Alliance member!), The Good Trade and more. The event will feature workshops, panel discussions, yoga sessions and a Do-Good Goods marketplace, full of savvy social enterprise products. Click here to see the conference schedule and reserve a ticket, or check out their online shop and blog.

If you’d like to meet up with our partnerships manager, Elisa Morales, while attending, feel free to reach out to her at elisa@socialenterprise.us. Opt in for updates, news and social enterprise resources from SEA straight to your inbox, here.
