Reaching Skyward

A sonnet

Tall tree’s bony fingers grasp for the blue,
Tall smokestack belches sunlit white steam cloud.
White cotton candy against bluest hue,
Grey barked leafless branching branches abound.

Human nature and nature’s nature both,
Reach forever outward, both up and down.
People build up, while trees will add growth,
For available space, blue’s the best around.

Look up, trying to get your attention,
Up and away, take your mind off of it.
Don’t want to think of that slight contention,
What was I thinking? I must have lost it.

Sometimes it pays one to pay attention,
Reaching skyward, one hopes for ascension.
