Social Journalism Class of 2015 Final Presentations
Come see all the great stuff students have done this year
On Tuesday, December 15, at 5:30PM, the very first class of social journalism students at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism will present the final results of their work engaging communities. We invite you to join us!
At the beginning of the year when our program started, each student selected a community — broadly defined to include nearly any kind of subject or interest area, not just geographic — that they would focus on serving throughout their time here. Building upon the lessons they’ve learned in their coursework and their own experiences reporting on and listening to these communities, the students have built up a great deal of expertise on new forms of journalism.
You can read more about what they’ve been up to in this post from my colleague Jeff Jarvis.
This past semester, students have had the flexibility to design their own project and/or find an internship that furthers their skills and allows them to more focus more deeply on their community’s needs. These presentations will discuss what they’ve done in this community practicum and more broadly, what they’ve learned all year. Check out the syllabus.
This is our last hurrah before this crew graduates on December 18, and we would love to have you come learn from them and offer your own feedback and insights.
We will have 12 presentations that will be strictly limited to no more than 10 minutes each (one student can’t join us and will present earlier).
The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism is located at 219 W. 40th Street on the 3rd floor, and we will be in room 308. Please RSVP.
We are looking into finding somebody to help us Periscope the event; will share a link! Follow our hashtag #socialj!
We will likely toast the students at a nearby watering hole to be announced at the event, so feel free to join us!
