Am I Wasting Valuable Time On Social Media?

As of recently I have started to monitor and keep track of my daily social media usage. I was asking myself some of the following questions like, What apps do I use? What do I use them for? How often do I use it? Do I use it too much? Do I interact with other people on them? Do others give input on what say? After focusing on those questions, let me just say I am not surprised at what I discovered.

What I discovered was, yes I do use social media often, even with my very busy schedule, I found time to fit it in. Although I did not us it for the typical U.S or World News. I found that the main news I was receiving from my social media usage was what my old/new friends and distant relatives were doing. Aside from that I would use it to post pictures of what I was doing out with my friends. I would just go back and forth between different apps doing so, and sometimes even in a rotation. If I wasn’t doing that I found myself watching funny videos and tagging my friends or sending them links to funny memes as well. I noticed that I only really use my social media apps at stop lights (SHAME ON ME), while I was lying in bed, before I would sleep for the night and wake up for the day, and when I was out enjoying life with my girlfriends.

I do not think that I was using social media too much. Just probably at all the wrong times. Driving.. a BIG HUGE NO NO, I need to stop that. My before bed usage really stopped me from getting the full amount of sleep that is required for me to function well. As well as my morning media usage prevented me from having more time to get ready for my long days. Definitely while I’m out with my friends is a time I would like to slow my usage down on too! I should be enjoying their company. A few pics here and there aren’t so bad, but I should be making more memories instead of documenting them. After realizing that I thought to myself, “Well, when is a good time to use social media with my kind of schedule then?” I do not know if there is a good answer for that actually, but this assignment probably hit me deeper than it should have. But if I use it for news I am sure it would be more appropriate and useful for me to do it at certain times.

I find myself reacting to others posts by like buttons, but not really commenting. I am a quiet follower on these social media sites. I am always watching and observing but never speaking. I would take what I saw on the different medias for actual conversations between my friends.

All in all I need to prioritize my social media usage a tad bit better than what I am doing with it right now. It is completely possible and I will fix this. I have no worries about it.
