In 2003, the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation launched a musical channel called “Nagham”. The Channel used to broadcast the famous show Star Academy and it was really famous at that time.

If you focus on the bottom of the screen, there is the option the send an SMS in order to see it on screen. In that case, many young men and women would meet on that uncommon “medium”. Also, the section was used to share feedback for the songs and tvshows.

Can’t we consider this TV Live-Chat a social medium ?

Nagham TV, Live-Chatting On TV

First, you’re communicating with a lot of people from many places around the world. Second, it’s giving you a stand to give your opinion or meet new people. Third, it is believed not to be censored (but that is to be confirmed).

I met an ex-TV worker (not from Nagham, but a channel in Lebanon that had the same Live Chat experience). He told me that his main job on this channel was to take random identities and talk on this platform in order to make it seem active and encourage people to use it. So is that really a trustworthy service and can we really name it a Social Medium ?
