The idea of brand awareness is just what it sounds like, it describes how recognizable your brand is to consumers. You need to establish a strong brand awareness for people to feel comfortable with your brand, eventually leading them to buy from you over your competitor because they feel like they know your brand more. Social media is the perfect platform to help build brand awareness because it’s easy for both new and existing customers to reach you.

Here are a few ways to build your brand awareness using social media:

User-Generated Content

User-generated content (UGC) is a great way to get your brand more known on social media. Any content created by an individual, rather than a brand, is considered UGC and with so many different types of content like images, videos, text, podcasts, reviews, etc., brands can get creative with how they interact with their audience.

For example, Lululemon is a brand that regularly includes UGC on their social media. On their official Twitter page, you can find retweets and replies to satisfied customers:

Consumers trust their peers more than brands, so when they see someone they know supporting a certain brand, they’re more likely to engage with that brand in the future. UGC builds trust between the consumer and the brand which, then, grows brand awareness.

Influencer Content

Influencer content refers to a business partnering with a known social media influencer to promote their brand. This type of content is similar to user-generated content, but with more credibility since influencers have an established social media presence and get high engagement from their followers.

For smaller brands, focus more on collaborating with micro-influencers with smaller followings rather than macro-influencers that have millions of followers. This allows for you to reach more specific target audiences and the influencers can interact with them on a more personal level, leading to higher engagement and brand awareness in that community.

Giveaways

Giveaways are the perfect way to build your brand awareness on social media. Depending on the criteria of your giveaway, you could see a boost in followers, engagement, or even email list sign-ups. They build trust between you and the customer and your brand visibility is likely to grow from followers sharing your giveaway on their stories or with their friends.

For example, Cocofloss is a health and beauty brand that specializes in luxe, eco-friendly oral care and is currently doing a giveaway across all their social media channels:

By giving away samples, you show confidence in your product or service and strengthen the business to consumer relationship.

Leader Content

Leader content, also known as thought leadership, is another great way to establish credibility with your audience. This type of content involves an expert in your industry sharing their thoughts and opinions on a topic in order to teach your audience something new and build trust.

For example, Dove markets itself as a body positive brand, so they partnered with Lizzo who is considered an expert on body positivity based on her own path to self-acceptance:

Collaborating with such a well-known celebrity emphasizes the Dove brand’s commitment to the body positivity movement, while building trust and brand awareness with their followers.

People tend to feel more comfortable buying from brands they recognize. By creating engaging content on your social media you can build your brand recognition, maintain relationships with customers and attract new ones!
