What Is GEO Targeting And Why Is It Important?
NOTE TO THE READER: This entire tutorial is based on GEO targeting, timing, and presentation. The 3 Primary Ingredients of High-Ticket Affiliate Sales!
Basically, GEO targeting establishes affordability, especially with high-ticket affiliate programs. The ones paying hundreds and, in some cases, even thousands of dollars in commissions per sale!
This may be simply unaffordable when you target the wrong GEO location. Worldwide random traffic does NOT work with high-ticket affiliate sales. You must target the top-tier countries, these are.
· United States.
· United Kingdom.
· Canada.
· Australia.
· New Zealand.
· Germany.
Now, to dive a little deeper into affordability. This is where the income structure of the particular GEO location population comes into play. For instance, if you’re trying to sell a product for $1300 in South Africa (I’m from South Africa).
Then you might, most probably, be wasting your time and effort. Because $1,300 roughly converts to ZAR 23,387 (South African Rand), while the average working person only earns ZAR 23,982 ($1,334) per month!
NOTE: These Figures Are Based on A Google Search and Dollar to ZAR exchange rate at the time of writing this article (8 October 2022).
Now, what are the chances of someone spending their entire monthly salary on a digital product? See the importance of GEO location when it comes to establishing affordability?
For the United States, The BLS reports, in the second quarter of 2022. Men earned a median annual salary of $59,488. While women made a median annual salary of $49,036, or 82.4% of men’s earnings.
Making that an average monthly income of $4,957. Therefore, also increases the probability of a sale, because it may be a lot more affordable than in South Africa for instance with an average income of $1,334 per month.
If you do not establish affordability first, you may experience a rather unpleasant feeling. It is the frustration of getting thousands of “visitors” but zero sales and zero interaction (shares, likes, comments).
Zero conversion and sales-related questions I am often asked, to the ring of.
“I don’t understand, I am getting thousands of visitors per month but zero sales! Why is that?”
The reason for this should be quite clear now and believe me when I say. I had the exact same traffic problem before I started paying attention to GEO targeting. 250 GEO and keyword-targeted visitors are worth more than 10,000 “visitors” with a near 100% bounce rate!
Posting Times To Reach A GEO Targeted Audience.
With your GEO targeting set, the next step is timing which is equally important. Targeting a United States audience, I suggest you focus on Pacific Standard Time. From there you need to calculate the time difference from where you are located.
This goes for every single piece of content you create and want to have maximum exposure. Blog posts, YouTube Videos, Websites, Blogs, Articles, and Social Posts. Everything needs to be posted or scheduled for or at the right time!
At the time of writing this article, the Pacific Standard Time was 01:09 AM while my location time (in South Africa) was 10:23 AM. Making that a +9 hours time difference. So the best time for me personally to post content may be around 17:00–18:00 my location time.
This means I will be reaching my target audience in the US from around 08:00 AM and onwards. This way all content is sent when the target audience is available, not in the early morning hours when most people are sleeping or working (night shift). See where this is going?
GEO targeting and timing are the two most important parts to increase your chances of sales with high-ticket affiliate programs. But you also need to find a search term for which interest is increasing. Getting us to the next step, Google Trends.
Start With Google Trends For GEO Targeting.
Find a search term related to your content and affiliate offer, in this case, for demonstration purposes, the search term is “how to make easy money”.
As you can see above, it is an interest that is growing. More and more people are turning to their sites to make money online! However, to get an accurate result with Google Trends there are a few areas you need to focus on.
Inside Google Trends, to the top right-hand side corner (On Desktops), select the country you wish to target based on the search term. Choose the time frame, and categories (or leave them as all categories).
Google Trends will also show you the Sub-Regions where the most searches come from. This is a good strategy to use with classified ads, for instance, reaching the right audience at the right time!
Making money online with affiliate marketing is all about affordability, location, and timing. It is however a rather time-consuming research task, but well worth the effort.
This however only covers the targeting and timing aspect of any content marketing strategy. We will get to the importance of presentation later in this article.
Because even when you target the perfect audience, if your presentation does not create curiosity, it kind of defeats the whole exercise and purpose of targeting the audience in the first place, right?
Traffic Quality Based On GEO Targeting.
As you can see above, admittedly there was a problem with my blog URL, hence the few days’ gaps in the analytics. Nevertheless, the traffic is quite consistent, although not in the thousands per day. Hovering at around 80–100 visitors per day.
But kindly note where the visitors are from. That’s right, mostly top-tier countries. United States, Germany, and Canada. Targeting 3 of the 6 top tier countries. Quality will always beat quantity. Quality with timing means sales. Gibberish and volume mean failure.
All of this forms part of the difference between traffic, and buyer traffic. It is quite a huge difference; I can assure you. Driving traffic is the easy part, the internet is flooded with it. Convincing those visitors that your solution is what they have been waiting for, is quite another art.
Create Groups, Pages, Social Profiles, and Spaces.
Creating your own audience is another requirement and plays a huge role in recognition. You need to get recognized as a problem solver, not a salesman. Create your own audiences and interact with them, solve problems, and be recognized.
Once you have created all of the above, you want to create high-quality content and post at the right time. Or where possible, schedule your posts based on the research you have completed if you followed the steps in this article.
For post-scheduling, you can use tools like FP Traffic and/or Buffer. Although sites like Facebook have post-scheduling options available.
Above is an indication of a TikTok video, and the results when combining these targeting strategies. Over 100K views, 52.6% of which watched the entire video clip. And the audience? An Active Audience of 77.1K originated from these countries/areas.
· Great Britain — 30%
· California — 21%
· South Africa — 10%
· Australia — 5%
Now I don’t know about you, but I am quite happy with these kinds of results as opposed to the “dead” alternative, right? Over 50% of visitors are from the UK, USA, and Australia. Affordability? Check!
Be sure that when you create all these online communities, social profiles, groups, and pages. You complete all profiles, descriptions, cover and profile images, about me sections, etc.
If you want to get recognized as a professional in your field, then give people reason to believe you. Provide solutions along with a means to contact you. In order to build a reputation, you need to be available!
But more importantly, you need to have the knowledge you may be claiming that you have. There are way too many “experts” these days on the internet. Stay humble, and your audiences will love you for it!

As an example, below is a YouTube Thumbnail I recently used. Considering that most people are looking for one of four things online, or all 4 together.

· Solutions To Problems.
· Guides To Achieve Goals.

As mentioned before, even with the perfect audience. It is your presentation and the art of creating curiosity that results in sales, high-ticket affiliate sales, or otherwise.
Use your Post Image, YouTube Thumbnail, and Article Presentation Image to create curiosity by pointing out the benefits. You must convince your audience that what you offer is more beneficial to them than alternative options.
With the YouTube Thumbnail below, immediately points to the fact that this is something for free! Setting your visitors at ease so that they do not have to spend any money to receive your product. People love free stuff, I know I do, right?
Then just a simple “Watch Now”. Create attractive content, the kind of presentational material that makes your visitor stop scrolling. Interested in what it is that this presentation is all about.
You simply use the same presentational strategy across the board when designing images. Which is usually the first thing your visitor sees when scrolling the search pages.
And also your one and only chance to turn a scroll into a click, a click into a visitor, and a visitor into a buyer!
Use Trending, Rising, and Popular Hashtags.
When it comes to social posts, videos, and networking. Hashtags often play a crucial role in categorization. You can use a free hashtags tool called Hashtags(dot)org to research trending hashtags.
Hashtags, Problem-Solving Content, Timing, and GEO Targeting. The only 4 ingredients you will ever need to generate sales and make money online. Be it high-ticket affiliate offers or otherwise.
Inside Hashtags(dot)org you will see 3 different selections or groups of hashtags. You can also search for hashtags with this tool. The point is to get the most active hashtags related to your content in your post.
· Upward Arrow = Hashtags Trending Up.
· Downward Arrow = Hashtags Trending Down.
· Star = Most Popular Hashtags.
Sites like Facebook will provide you with a post quantity for a particular hashtag. This way you can choose the hashtags with either the most post or fewer posts for a particular hashtag.
With YouTube, you want to place your 3 most important hashtags right at the beginning of your video description. That way they will display beneath your video on YouTube but be sure to NOT include a video location.
In this case, the video location will show beneath the video, and not the hashtags.
