Here’s what you do with Google Posts

A Google My Business post we have for an OSM client.
It’s this.

Google My Business is Google’s most important platform. It’s the thing that provides search listings: store hours, location, phone number, directions, website, star rating(reviews) AND posts.

Everything Google was built on.

As a business owner it is crucial to understand that no matter what, you have a Google listing and Google doesn’t magically take care of this for you — you have to manage it yourself. To manage hours and location is obviously important, but what people forget about, or maybe don’t even know about, is GMB posting.

The benefits of utilizing posting abilities are endless. There are three benefits we care about though.

  1. It presents a complete picture for your listing. It provides your audience with another way to see what your business is doing. Also, it fills in the white space in a listing, making yours stand out compared to another listing that doesn’t have their post up. Posts can also help your business get found through search if you’re using effective keywords and phrases.
  2. It is another way to track your audience and utilize marketing mediums. We often suggest to our customers to put a different deal on GMB than anywhere else. Customers can call your business or go in with that specific deal and you will immediately know where they got it. Also, we can measure clicks and views from your posts. You can also link your website to every post that you publish.
  3. It’s authentic and grabs attention. Let’s be real — it looks nice! I mean look…

Whether it’s a picture of the business or a graphic made by them, it’s another platform in which people see your authentic posts and personality. Posts show your audience how hard you work on every and all platforms making your business look even more put together.

Now, all that being said there have been A LOT of updates to GMB posts. Let’s quickly walk through them so you have all the tools to complete your GMB listing. Here is what you will see after clicking the “Posts” tab on the left-hand side of GMB home.

So what you need to know now, is what each of those tabs do. Google will crack down on exactly how you are using posting to make sure that it is being used for the right reasons.

Also, it’s important to note that to learn about this…I had to Google it.

What’s New: This can be an event, offer or news. Anything that is “new” in your business can be posted and you will have the option of a short post and a button. The only question here is how long it will stay published.

Event: The only difference here is you can schedule the event for a start and end date/time. This has to be an actual event happening at your location according to Google. Not the length in which an offer is running, for that you would use the “Offer” tab.

Offer: As usual with an offer you will include the “details” and a “title” which in this case should be the coupon. This offer tab is very important because Google is doing everything it can to make Google a place without spam and solicitation. So this tab may be one of the only places Google will allow you to post a promo without making you pay for it. Use this wisely and often (if you have a promo/coupon). They are letting you take full advantage of this feature by letting the consumer learn more, click and redeem all in one place — and all for your business.

Offer tab.

Product: This is the final tab that Google added to it’s posts. It’s another example of Google giving you space to promote your business and products. This tab is literal — use it for your products. You can name the price or the range for the product and add a button for consumers to “order online”, “learn more”, “get offer” or “buy”.
