Twitter Testing New Image Layout

According to recent leaks and some digging from reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong, Twitter may change the way users see images in their feed.

From a few of the released images, it looks like the refreshed layout will stretch across the entire width of the Twitter feed. The look is much cleaner than previous versions. The feed does look very similar to Facebook, but social media platforms have been “borrowing” features from each other for years so that should come as no surprise.

These changes are not confirmed yet, but Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey responded directly to Jane Manchun Wong with a tweet saying “much better” so it’s safe to assume this is a change that will come through the Twitter pipeline in 2021. This change could mean the ideal width or dimensions of images will need to be shifted, so we’ll stay updated if Twitter gives any further recommendations for creative sizing.

Tweet Editing A Possibility

In a tweet from Twitter’s Product Lead Kayvon Beykpour, it looks like Twitter is introducing the possibility of tweet editing in the future.

For people that don’t know, Twitter Blue is Twitter’s subscription service that is only available to Canadian and Australian users. That version of Twitter already has the option to undo sending tweets, as long as users unsend them in the first 30 seconds after posting.

As of right now, it seems like Tweet Editing would be a paid-only feature.

New Auto Captions For Voice Tweets

Twitter launched audio clips for Tweets in June 2020. Users can add 140-second audio clips to Tweets, but the feature is still fairly unpopular.

Now, Twitter will auto-caption voice tweets, impoving some accessibility features for most Twitter users.

These are solid changes for the social media platform, which has been stagnant for a few years now. We’ll see if users enjoy these features in the coming months and if Twitter can rise again to where it used to be.
