Right now, creating videos on social media is one of the most impactful things you can do to take your social media game to the next level. With most cell phones being able to capture quality video and sound, nothing is stopping business owners from capitalizing on this trend.

There are tons of statistics that point to video being the preferred content medium in the future. Here are just a few from a recent Wordstream blog on the subject.

  1. Social video generates 1200% more shares than text & image content combined
  2. On average, people watch 16 hours of online video every week
  3. 86% of people would like to see more video from businesses
  4. 64% of consumers make a purchase after watching branded social videos

It’s no wonder that businesses are doing everything they can to shift to video creation, but many owners think it’s difficult to get started. The truth is, consumers prefer shorter videos, so it’s easier than ever to create value for your brand on social media easily and quickly.

In a recent Google study, only 4.1% of participants stated that “High Production Quality” is the #1 reason they watch online video, so that reinforces the fact that cell phone video should be just as effective as professionally produced video content.

Compare that number to the 8.8% of consumers watching online content because it “Teaches Them Something New.” If you’re able to pass on industry knowledge or educate your consumers about a topic you’re passionate about, they are twice as likely to watch your video compared to video quality alone.

How Can Business Owners Easily Create Video For Social Media?

It’s a little intimidating when shooting your first videos, but it doesn’t have to be. If you have a smartphone, you don’t really need anything else to get started. A decent microphone is always helpful too, but here are some ideas that almost any business can use when deciding what videos to shoot for their social channels.

Meet The Team

Highlighting a team member can be a great video subject. Ask one of your employees what they like most about working for you or about some of their interests outside of work. People like to see actual people on social media, so showcasing the human side of your workers will help generate more likes, shares and comments!

Business History

Whether your business was opened in 1921 or 2021, people love hearing about how you got started and why. Simply filming yourself and talking about the origins of your business shows the passion you have for your business. Be genuine and social media users will respond positively.

Company Pets

People love their pets, and let’s face it, you probably already have video of your cat or dog on your phone, so why not use those assets to get more social media attention for your business? You could capitalize on daily trends like #nationalpetday or just make it a weekly feature for your business that will make you stand out!

Educational Resources

If you’re a service-based business, you already have expertise in something that most social media users don’t. Capitalize on this by showing how you perform a service and go in-depth as to why you’re doing it that way. Show just enough to educate people without giving away any insider knowledge and your customers will appreciate the additional insight into your business.

Product Highlights

After seeing your products day in and day out, you may be numb as to just how cool they can be! Let’s take an auto repair business as an example. Brake repairs and oil changes don’t seem that exciting at face value, but what if that oil change is happening on a 1967 Ford Mustang? All you need to do is shoot a short video on your phone about how excited you are to work on a vehicle like that and other car enthusiasts will share the enthusiasm!

Simple Thank You Messages

As a business owner, you probably have a lot to be thankful for. Whether if it’s your supportive family, an employee who has been working hard or your loyal customers, a simple thank you message shows you care. With video, it’ s a lot easier to express your thankfulness with your vocal tones and body language, so don’t underestimate how effective a thank you video can be.
