Last night I hosted a live chat with people who belong to the Ninja Writer’s Club. It was the same chat I’ve hosted every Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern for more than a year.

It’s a great time. Usually twenty to thirty people show up. I know them really well — because they show up every week, I’ve been able to get to know their stories, their goals — and it’s one of my favorite parts of the week.

Yesterday though, was really amazing. Because all of a sudden, I had a burst of inspiration for one of the writers. I knew what her niche was. I could see it so plainly! If she develops it and nurtures it — she could turn writing about this one relatively narrow topic into a business.

Here’s what you don’t know — I met up with this Ninja Writer for lunch a couple of days earlier. We both live about an hour (in opposite directions) from Erie, PA, and I had to be there for a doctor’s appointment. So, we spent a couple of hours at a Panera and talked.

So, I had the chance to get to know her better and talk about her writing. And what matters to her and what she’s interested in. And her experience. All of which helped me to be able to help her figure out her niche.
