I love watching NBA playoffs. So much competition and close games

But it’s not just about the basketball. The lessons from NBA games can be applied to anything in life e.g. Marketing.

No, I am not kidding. Check out these important ones below…

(1) Team > One Superstar

A superstar can win you a game but not the championship.

You need the whole team working together in order to win an NBA championship.

This is also true when it comes to marketing. It’s a TEAM sport. All of your teams (Engineering, Design, Marketing & Customer Service) need to work together in order to create compelling marketing campaigns.

Marketing is too important to be left to the marketing department (Unknown)

(2) Consistency is the key

Steph Curry consistently makes 3 pointers and that’s why he is a superstar. That’s why we love watching him play. Your marketing is very similar. If you are not consistent with your message, nobody will remember your brand.

BTW how many times have you seen Nike’s “Just Do It” commercial?

OR how many times have you seen McDonald’s TV ad?

You get the point :)

If you are not consistent, nobody will remember you (ali)

(3) Never give up

How many times have you seen teams make 4th quarter come back?

BTW Kobe was my favorite clutch player (Miss you #blackmamba)

If you don’t give up, you always have a chance. It’s not over until it’s over.

Same goes with your marketing campaigns.

If something didn’t work out, look at the data and try to understand the “WHY”. Then do it again with a different strategy.

If people didn’t click on your Facebook ads, maybe you didn’t target the right people.

If you got the clicks but not the sales, maybe the offer on your landing page was not compelling enough.

It doesn’t matter. Look at the data, analyze and then try it again.
