How often you should post and when is a question often asked by those new to social media.

The answer is — as often as it takes to keep your community’s attention. Remember, it’s not about you, it’s about your readers, fans, tribe.

Some of the things you need to consider when and how often to post:

  1. Is your audience local or international? If it’s international, post 24 hours a day to account for time zones.
  2. Are your readers monitoring social media channels continuously? If not, when are they most likely to be online?
  3. How much time do you have for research? Your posts should be a combination of marketing for your blog, interacting with your readers, curating others posts and editorial comment.
  4. Monitor your results and make small changes every day. You may need to alter your message, the time and frequency of your posts for the most engagement. Change one thing at a time, if you make too many changes you may never know what one thing or combination made the difference.

Be patient, it takes time to build a content strategy that works. Start with your best guess for a posting schedule. Document the changes you make and the results.

Remember, it’s just that easy.
