The Art of the Dick Pic

There’s nothing particularly attractive about the male sex organ in and of itself. Starring one down has got to be uncomfortable even if it happens to be attached to someone you fancy quite a bit.

This, I believe, is the consensus of reasonably minded men and women. It is however not a widely held enough belief of those who have taken to it as a photographic subject — a singular subject in most cases. You see, some men can’t get enough of not only documenting their penis, but also sharing it digitally with the object of their affection — sometimes even as an icebreaker.

There’s something to be said for the crudeness of a bold approach. In more recent times, a carefully chosen purple vegetable emoji alongside a winky face had been the bearish salvo of the hookup. But no longer. With the wide spread availability to high quality cameras on our phones and in our pockets, there has been a sharp rise in the transmission of UTDs (Unwanted Thrusting Dicks).

Like the winky face and eggplant, these overt flirtations are often undercut with the softness of a lone “?” as if that lessened the intrusion of the unrequited dick pic.

Can men not be bothered courting women any longer? Are they dick picing en masse playing some kind of gross numbers game?

Or are they just out of ideas?

All this is not to cast dispersion upon sexting.

When done correctly, sharing explicit photographs with ones’s consenting parter can be both exhilarating and rather pleasing. But like with most romantic ventures, the arousal lies in concealment.

Hand gesturing emojis work because they hint at what’s to come rather than laying, or rather, standing it all out bare. It’s the pillar of the lingerie industry and part of the reason playboy has gone non-nude. Trading double entendre and knowing the innocuous exchange hints at more is a tantalizing shared secret to put one another in the mood. The sexiest thing about a person is, and resides in, the imagination.

Like in all things that feel good and evoke primal urges, restraint is key.
