Why Your Vote Matters

2016 has been changing our world as we know it. There are constant terrorist attacks, police brutality, and now violence towards police officers as well. Its the perfect scenario to install fear in people and for a certain trumpet mouth U.S Presidential candidate it has been working very well.

Americans, and people around the world, are looking at the U.S Presidential election with either confusion or as a joke. I’ve heard many people say they choose to vote for neither presidential candidate at all. Some U.S citizens might even vote for something they don’t believe in as a joke. Whether you are an American citizen or not I beg you to not take voting lightly.

An example is the U.K Brexit that just happened one month ago. The majority that voted for the U.K to leave the European Union was not by young voters, but by older citizens who will most likely never feel the affects of the Brexit on their lives. The British Pound has fallen heavily against the U.S dollar since people are leaving behind their investments in the U.K and investing in the United States or other countries. Brexit will also affect the U.K’s labor force since they have many citizens from other countries in the European Union working in the U.K and vice versa. And that is just some of the few new issues the U.K will face for the next few years.

The people who chose to vote, seriously or not, impacted the U.K forever. The Brexit is much more complicated than what I just discussed and it involves a lot of economic and political explications to fully understand the impact it has had, and will have, on the U.K and other countries that have close ties with it. A few of which being capital loss, a fall in investments (both by the people and firms), new emigration and immigration policies, and a fall in government revenue.

It may seem pointless to vote for something. However what you are choosing to skip out voting on may impact your country not in the short run, but the long run. Even if what you voted for passes or doesn’t pass know you at least tried to change your community, city, state or country a better place.

You can’t get upset over the policies and the people running your country if you didn’t use the voting freedom that has been given to you. Remember that there are still countries that don’t have the right to vote!
