“Meet the Social Misfits Squad” is our ongoing interview series where we sit down with members of the Misfits family to chat about their work, passions and backgrounds.

This week, we sat down with one of the most experienced members of our squad, Angharad Francis, who’s been with us for almost 2 years. As one of Social Misfits’ Community Manager, Angharad is responsible for creating engaging content to share on clients’ social media channels, as well as managing their ads. Angharad has been working in the comms industry for just under 4 years, and certainly knows her way round a social media campaign.

What’s a typical day at SMM for you?

As a Community Manager, my main responsibility is to ensure that all my clients’ social media channels are running as smoothly as possible! A typical day includes checking all channels, engaging with our audience online, listening to relevant conversations and optimising paid ads campaigns.

One of the best things about working at SMM is that I also help with our other key services, so one week I could be running a training workshop and another week I could be working on a Social Diagnostic.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve found from working at SMM?

The fast changing pace — both internally and externally. Our team has grown so much since I first started in 2018, and we constantly have exciting opportunities where we can apply our skills and creativeness to help our clients. But the pace is also changing within social media, with platform features and analytics constantly evolving, so we are continually learning and keeping updated with these.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give our clients?

Always use what’s available to you. All the social media platforms have free analytics that can inform your social media strategy, whether this is looking at best performing content or which ads are working well, so make sure you are using them on a daily basis (even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day!).

What purpose-led campaign in recent years has resonated with you most?

I remember seeing Battersea’s Behind-The-Scenes campaign a few years ago featuring Peanut the dog and Misty the cat as live reporters, and I absolutely loved it. I thought it was innovative, witty and pure genius. It also helps I love animals and have a rescue dog at home, so this campaign has definitely stayed with me.

Personally, what’s your favourite social media platform & why?

It has to be Instagram! This is definitely the platform where I have been able to help clients be the most creative with their content, using highlights, GIFs, polls and fun hashtags to increase engagement and followers.

What’s the last TV show you’ve binged?

I’ve watched the classics like Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders, but I’m currently working my way through the 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls (for the second time) and I have no regrets.

What 4 pieces of pop culture would you take with you to a desert island?

Film: Love Actually — a Francis family favourite!

TV series: You’ve guessed it — Gilmore Girls.

Album : My first ever album — Craig David: Born To It. What a classic. I went to see him live two years ago and he sounded exactly the same as when I first listened to him through my Walkman!

Book: Little Women — it’s one of my mum’s favourite books and I’ve recently watched it with my housemates, so it will remind me of all my favourite people.

We’d like to thank Angharad for her time. Please feel free to connect with her on LinkedIn or Twitter. Next week we’ll be talking to our CEO, Carlos Miranda!
