Our Team at our 2022 Annual Team Retreat

We’re proud to be recognized as one of the Best Workplaces to Work in Canada by the Great Place to Work® Institute for 3 years in a row (2021–2023)! We’re especially proud of this recognition as it is based on direct feedback from our team members.

Today, we are a team of 35 changemakers with a big vision for the future. A future where green is mainstream and everyone has access to healthier more sustainable options. We want to use business as a force for good, and we see it as our job to reduce the barriers to making green mainstream.

Did you know? The top 3 barriers preventing more people from choosing better products are price, education, and trust. And so this is why we use product sampling to help people try before they buy, why we include a description of how each product is better, and why we ask our 800,000 (and counting) members to recommend the products they love to friends.

We attract passionate individuals who want to make an impact on this planet and want to help us build a great company. This win together value is our team’s greatest strength — it’s what bonds us together, and it’s what makes it so easy for someone new on the team to feel immediately at home. We often hear from new team members that they’ve found “their people” and “their purpose at work.”

Collaborative Environment: We believe that everyone is a leader and have developed a set of leadership principles that guide how we collaborate with each other every day. These leadership principles are: Make it Happen, Focus on Impact, Be a Customer Champion, Keep it Real, Own Your Craft, and Win Together. We create a work environment where everyone’s input is valued and encouraged, no matter your tenure, and regularly ask our team for feedback so that we can build a great company together. Our CEO likes to say, “if one side of the boat is leaking, it’s everyone’s problem.”

Action-Oriented: We have a strong bias for action and love for our team to take initiative. As changemakers, we know it’s up to us to make the change we wish to see in the world. In fact, our CEO has a card on her desk that has the word “should” crossed out on one side and has a mirror on the other. If she hears the words “someone should” in a conversation, she shows them the mirror to make it clear that they themselves are the ones who can take the initiative to make it happen. This creates an empowering work environment where anything is possible or as we like to say “you can make a wish, or you can make it happen!’

Growth Mindset: We view challenges as opportunities, and our response: “thank you for the problem.” As a team we are motivated to continuously grow, learn and challenge ourselves; like a sports team, we train together to continuously get better at our craft. We invest in coaching programs for people managers, conduct 360 reviews for all team members so they can get feedback and be recognized by their peers, develop bi-annual growth plans for each individual, and regularly host company workshops on leadership, communication, and mindfulness. Our goal? We want every employee to leave Social Nature having grown personally and professionally.
