Should we help the homeless?

In some train stations, there are also ‘homeless’, but they are not those people who do not have a place to live. Some of them are college students like us. They will put on cardboard which said ‘I am a college, and my wallet and phone have been stolen, so please help me to give me some money to go back home’. Sometimes I wonder if that is true.

I remember one time when I was talking on the street, a person just come and shake my hand and told me that today is his child’s birthday, and he is so poor that he can not afford anything, so he begged me to buy a target gift card. I am not sure if that is true, so I did not do that. Instead, that I gave him a box of chocolate as a gift for his child’s birthday.

When I was in my home country. There are some homeless on the bridge, whenever I cross the bridge, I also saw them bagging. What I usually do is to give them some changes, because most of them lack of legs and can not walk. From the “Berkeley Political Review” some city in the U.S. have laws to control the food to give the homeless.

The reason that I help them is that I want to help them and gave them money to help them buy some food instead of just starving. However, whenever I talk about this with my parents or my friends, they always I was cheated. They told me that being homeless is their ‘job’, they cheat money by gaining sympathy from others. That makes me start to thinking. What they are going to do with the money that was given by other people? Are they going to give that money to their boss? or do they really need that money to buy a piece of bread?
