What does the “House” mean for us?

We often joke that house prices are gold these days. However, considering the importance of the house in our lives, it is not an exaggeration at all.

With today’s house prices, we need a lot of time and effort to earn money to buy it. Even if I make $80,000 a year and don’t spend any of that money, it’ll take me 4–5 years on average. (And this is based on houses in Cary, which means it will differ even more if they are houses in big cities such as New York.)

However, it is almost impossible to save without spending any of the money we earn. Therefore, having your own comfortable space is like picking stars in the sky for those in their 20s or 30s.

People who cannot afford to buy a house all at once choose monthly rent. However, it is even more difficult for those who are renting a house to buy a house. This is because the high monthly rent makes it difficult to save. While the youth unemployment rate is rising, soaring house prices are leaving young people with no place in society.

Young people are an important member of the society that will lead this American society in the future. Judging from these points, policies for them are urgently needed.

However, besides the housing problem of young people, homeless is considered as a big problem too. The current number of homeless people is 552,830, a large number whose human rights are not respected.

The perception of homeless people among homeless people is not good. They are just people who simply need help, who can’t afford to buy a booming house, and society rejects them. I recently saw an article that a person serving food to the homeless was reported to the police. It showed people’s low civic awareness toward the homeless.

Homeless people are just like us. They should be respected just as we are respected in society. To do that, we need to change people’s stereotypes and policies that exclude the homeless.

If so, what was the main reason for the increase in house prices? Can both of these problems be resolved if house prices stabilize?
