White supremacy is defined by the encyclopedia Britannica as Beliefs and ideas purporting natural superiority of the lighter-skinned, or “white,” human races over other racial groups.” Although this is pretty straightforward, many people have a hard time identifying it, and some people even find ways to defend it. Recently there have been a number of white supremacist attacks and demonstrations including shootings targeting certain racial groups. While these are a few extreme examples of white supremacist demonstrations, there are many active groups in the US that demonstrate “peacefully” regularly. Many supporters avoid addressing the actual issue by arguing that speaking out against them is a violation of free speech. What they fail to realize is that speaking out against an idea is not the same as silencing free speech. White supremacy has made somewhat of a comeback in the media and politics. Many ideas and policies that support white supremacy are often cloaked by fallacious arguments that distract you from the main point. Much of the rhetoric surrounding anti-immigration policy is centered around the idea that immigrants are going to replace the native population. This idea itself is centered around white supremacy, and is echoed by white supremacist groups and domestic terrorists.
