Poverty and wealth are often found side by side. They are two dimensions in our world that are interrelated because they affect each other and influence both the willingness and capacity of states to ensure a stable global system.

The divide between wealth and poverty is continuing to grow, yet no changes are being made to help those in poverty. “The wealthiest 1% has taken $50 trillion from working Americans and redistributed it” by Paul Constant made me relate to an encounter that I had in my childhood.

We had a worker back in my hometown, she used to work with my mother to take care of our home. As a single female with 2 children it was really hard for her to get a house and rest of the supplies necessary for the survival as she was new to this city and did not have any assets to apply for a home loan or anything. Her husband was back in her hometown working as a farmer just trying to grow enough crops so that he could sell them and make money to return the money from money lender. Since banks do not provide them with loans they have to turn to money lenders who take their land if they fail to make the full payment with interest on time. Some people do fail but then they turn to another money lender for the money and because of this the interest keeps on increasing and their life becomes nothing but hell. It is because of this trading that the rich people are getting richer (as the interest keeps getting increased and all the crops they produce in that land which is fixed) and poor people are nothing but getting trapped in a viscous cycle from which there is no way out. They spend their whole life just by working hard for a moneylender.

The worst part being that even the kids of the people below poverty line these days are aware of the concept of this never ending cycle. So Nowadays they have stopped trying and started using the money that they get from our help in buying drugs and not food. I believe it is because they know that our help is not enough to make their situation better, so they just don’t even try to get out of it. This situation not only in the United States but in rest of the countries is going worse with each day.
