The topic of abortion is continually something that has been proven to be an issue most specifically in America. With the recent midterm elections that decided the fate of abortion in many states, the issue is more prevalent than ever. The way that abortions are handled is up to the state, which is why these elections were so important, yet the turnout was underwhelming which means that states such as Texas will continue to have abortions illegal.

In the article ‘Manifesto of the 343’ Beauvoir talks about her experience of getting an abortion and how the most basic right a woman could have is over her own body. She states “It is out of vital necessity that women should win back control and reintegrate their bodies.” The only way to begin the fight for women’s rights is to elect people who will allow women to have control of their own bodies. But, the system has proven again and again that it doesn’t care about women but more so the control that it can exert over them.

The issue is not only the system that continues to show its control over women but the people who go out of their way to torment people that go against their beliefs. I recently saw a video of the Raleigh police escorting a group of pro-life people toward an abortion clinic. These people gather every day to stand outside of abortion clinics and yell and harass patients. This is a huge issue that needs to be discussed more and should reflect the people that we have placed in power who are doing nothing about it. When will politicians start to enact the policies that they get elected for?
