Following several recent updates to how publisher posts are treated in the newsfeed, Facebook has just released an algorithm update which will affect posts by individual users.

The aim of the update is to reduce the impact of “spammers” on the newsfeed and boost informative or entertaining posts instead. Less visibility will be given to people “who routinely share vast amounts of public posts per day, effectively spamming people’s feeds”, according to Facebook’s note.

The update applies to individual posts, rather than entire pages or domains.

The press release states that most publishers will not be affected. Instead, “Publishers that get meaningful distribution from people who routinely share vast amounts of public posts per day may see a reduction in the distribution of those specific links.”
