Everything with SDA is coming together, so I have called for the 57th Socialist Congress to be held the weekend following Memorial Day, May 30 to June 1, 2025.
This month is Petitioning Month for the Washington, D.C. Advisory Neighborhood Commissions. There are 345 commissioner positions, representing districts of about 2,000 people. If you know someone in Washington, D.C., have them contact us.

Make Washington, DC, better, and run for the Advisory Neighborhood Commission
Advisory Neighborhood Commissions are local government organizations in Washington, DC.
From Wikipedia: “ANCs consider a wide range of policies and programs affecting their neighborhoods, including traffic, parking, recreation, street improvements, liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection, sanitation and trash collection, and the District’s annual budget. Commissioners serve two-year terms and receive no salary, but commissions receive funds for improving their area and hiring staff.”
The Greater Greater Washington is organizing two meetings to explain how to run for the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC): on Monday, July 1, 2024, virtually and on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in person. Running for the ANC is an excellent opportunity for Socialists to showcase our experience.

The first step is to declare your candidacy by dropping a declaration form at the D.C. Board of Election and picking up the Petition Pages. You will have until August 7, 2024, to collect 25 signatures.
Sign up for Rep My Block by emailing socdems@register.repmyblock.org to download a Washington, DC, Voter Walk Sheet. Then, knock on your neighbor’s door and ask them to sign the petition.

The important date to remember is November 13, 2024, which is the cutoff date for members to vote on the Socialist Platform.
The Socialist Congress is the meeting where the Socialist Manifesto is voted on, and the leadership is elected. The process starts by organizing Salons all over the United States to debate the draft policies or contributions located here: https://www.socialists.us/direct/drafts/policies.
Anyone can contribute based on their individual experience. Each proposal will be added to the Draft Policy page for everyone to comment on.
All active members with six months of membership on May 14, 2025, can vote.
To make the event more exciting, we are planning a Socialist Festival to turn New York City pink.
