It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have a release date for you . . . get ready for it! Our Official Open Beta release date is Thursday 27th September (AEST). Our dev team has been working tirelessly to finalise and test the platform before it’s pushed live, so before we release, we thought we might touch on a few things to expect when you sign in.

Introducing Charlie

If you have been following our project for a while, you would have noticed Charlie featured in many posts as Sociall’s mascot.

Charlie has started taking on more responsibilities within the team and will be online and ready to welcome you to Sociall Open Beta.

She is very excited to meet you all and just can’t wait to make new friends!

Privacy Settings

The current default setting for all Sociall profiles is public. Do not be alarmed by this! You are still very much secure and private within Sociall as your profile / content is not searchable outside of our platform. Essentially, ‘What happens in Beta, stays in Beta.’

Alternative profile privacy settings are already in development and can be expected within the next few sprints.

Please note that until then, all posts will be visible to everyone else on the network and are found in the ‘All’ feed. We think this will be an interesting way to find and connect with other people and share your thoughts and ideas with the whole Sociall Community.

Progress of Facebook Migration Tool

The Facebook migration tool is working perfectly. It’s been tested internally and is a great feature. Unfortunately though, at the moment, Facebook’s estimated review time for approving a new app is anywhere between 6–8 weeks. We submitted our review a few weeks ago now, so we’re hoping that we can push the migration tool into the beta in the coming weeks once they approve it.

Open Source Update

Open source is not too far away. After internal review, we decided to launch open beta first and move the code to open source shortly after. Open beta needed to take priority over code security and clean up.

Security and Simplicity

The Sociall Open Beta focuses heavily on security and simplicity. Keep in mind that we have many amazing features on the way, but need to test the ground before we build the house (so to speak).
