Advanced technology and gadgets releasing this year

2018 was a successful year in innovation, with plenty of cool gadgets to name. With the new year comes new technology, and we think 2019 is going to be a big one.

Here is the tech to expect in 2019.

Samsung’s Foldable Smartphone

Can’t choose between a tablet and a phone? Why not have both? Samsung is challenging current phone design norms, releasing new foldable phone technology called Infinity Flex Display.

The phone has a tablet-sized screen that can be folded up to standard phone size too — offering convenience and versatility. The new phone will also be capable of running three apps simultaneously, which is something Samsung calls multi active window.

Google is working closely with Samsung for this launch, providing guidance for developers to start using existing features that are built into Android to support these foldable displays.

5G Speed and Compatibility

The 5G tsunami is coming in 2019. Being the latest technology in the telecommunication field, 5G will work 100 times faster than current 4G technology in market. This technology will prompt new standards and capabilities for streaming content, apps, virtual reality and gaming.

New devices will also need to be made compatible with 5G. Intel has announced partnership with several manufacturers including Dell, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft, to bring 5G-connected PCs to the consumer market from the second half of 2019.

5G services will also be paired with 4G technology to allow quick switches between communication models if battery life preservation is necessary.

New Apple Headphone Tech

An application for headphone technology filed by Apple with the United States Patent and Trademark Office suggests that Apple may be working on new technology in the headphone space.

Since removing the need for a AUX jack on their new device designs and earphones and then releasing the wireless AirPods, it should come as no surprise they are looking at the next step in optimising traditional headphone design.

The patent describes over-the-ear, noise-cancelling, reversible headphones that could automatically adjust which ear cup is the right or left using microphones in the ear cups. The headphones are also rumoured to have new microphone tech, with one mic to capture your voice and a second one to cancel out background noise so that you can be clearly heard.

Increased 3D Metal Printing

source

Moving into the future of innovation, focus on materials is important. Although 3D printing primarily uses plastic, 3D metal printing is poised to be the next big wave in this industry, with a range of varying use cases.

Looking at more delicate and fine products, 3D metal printing is uniquely beneficial to toy and jewellery businesses. In fashion, Nike’s printing metal cleats for sports shoes and on a larger scale, 3D printing has also been used to make seats for aeroplanes. When finished, these seats weighed an astonishing 50% lighter than their regular counterparts at only 766 grams.

As 3D technology develops, we can expect the efficiency and other use cases of metal printing to change the dynamic of multiple industries.
