SocialWorks collaborated with WGN-TV for the 2017 Drive-Thru Toy Drive. Learn about this initiative and the partner organizations for this holiday endeavor.

SocialWorks and Chicago’s news station WGN-TV collaborated for the WGN Morning News Drive-Thru Toy Drive on December 8, 2017. Held at WGN-TV Studios, this year was the station’s 15th annual toy drive and featured Santa Claus, caroling, and other holiday activities. During the five-hour event, Chance the Rapper stopped by to join in the festivities.

This year’s toy drive was able to collect thousands of toys for needy kids in the Chicago area. Viewers and businesses brought truckloads of toys to the drive-through toy drive. These toys included pallets of red wagons, crates of stuffed animals, soccer balls, and much more.

All of the toys were donated to SocialWorks, who then distributed them to families in need via SocialWorks Night at the Museum, the Chicago Park District, Provident Hospital, Christmas in the Wards, and One Hope United. Each of these events and charities are integral to uplifting and empowering children and families around Chicago.
